1. Airsoft rules in the Netherlands (NABV, transport, storage)

Airsoft is a permitted sport in the Netherlands, but there are clear rules. Especially when you are just starting out, it is important to know what you can and cannot do, so that you can go to an airsoft field without any problems, transport your equipment safely and store everything properly. On this page, we explain the most important airsoft rules in the Netherlands, including practical tips about NABV, transport and storage.

NABV and membership: what's that all about?

In the Netherlands, airsoft is subject to regulations. In practice, this means that as a player, you will usually have to deal with membership and checks on responsible use. This is intended to keep airsoft safe and controlled.

If you play regularly, it is wise to familiarise yourself with:

  • what is expected of players
  • what requirements apply when participating in skirmishes and events
  • how checks work in practice

This way, you avoid surprises on location and you can be sure that you are playing according to the rules.

Transporting airsoft equipment in the United Kingdom: what is and isn't allowed?

One of the most important parts of the rules is the transport of airsoft equipment. This is where beginners often go wrong, even though it's actually quite simple: you must avoid looking like you are ‘carrying something that can be used immediately’.

Practical guidelines for safe transport

  • Always transport your airsoft equipment in a closed bag or case
  • Make sure your equipment is not visible to others
  • Preferably store magazines and accessories separately
  • Only take what you need for your day of play

A sturdy gun bag or hard case is not a luxury but simply a smart choice. It prevents hassle and protects your gear from damage.

Storage at home: safe, tidy and responsible

In addition to transport, storage is an important part of responsible airsofting. You want to store your equipment in such a way that:

  • unauthorised persons cannot access it
  • everything remains protected against damage or wear and tear
  • you are quickly ready for your next day of play

Tips for proper storage

  • Store your airsoft equipment in a lockable cabinet, case or storage space
  • Store batteries and gas separately and safely
  • Make sure your gear is dry (prevents mould and wear)
  • Preferably use a sturdy bag or case so that everything is immediately ‘grab & go’

By storing your gear neatly, you also significantly extend the life of your equipment.

Rules on the field: safety first

In addition to the legal rules, airsoft fields almost always have house rules. These may vary from location to location, but are almost always focused on safety and fair play.

Common field rules include:

  • eye protection is mandatory
  • safety distance for CQB
  • maximum joule/velocity limits
  • use of bio BBs (depending on location)
  • always keep your weapon on safe outside of the game and remove the magazine from your replica

By familiarising yourself with these rules in advance, you will avoid having to improvise on the day itself (and believe me: improvising with airsoft rules is rarely a success).

Common mistakes regarding rules and transport

Beginners often make the same mistakes. The most common ones are:

  • leaving gear visible in the car
  • stopping at petrol stations while wearing ‘airsoft gear’ (plate carrier + holster)
  • leaving loose magazines or accessories in jacket pockets
  • leaving gear unprotected at home

It sounds strict, but these are exactly the things you want to avoid. Not only for yourself, but also for the image of airsoft in the United Kingdom.
