(Speed) Triggers

The Airsoft Trigger is the direct point of contact between you and your AEG’s gearbox. Every firing cycle begins with pulling the trigger. The quality, shape and adjustment of the trigger therefore have a major influence on the feel of firing, the control and the response speed of your replica.

In this category, you’ll find a carefully curated range of Airsoft Triggers & Speed Triggers from Guarder, Maxx Model and Retro Arms. The range comprises standard triggers for maintenance and replacement, as well as high-quality Adjustable Speed Triggers that allow you to precisely adjust the trigger travel for a faster and more direct trigger response.

Whether you’re maintaining a standard AEG or assembling an advanced ETU or MOSFET build, choosing the right trigger will not only improve the feel of your replica but also enhance your control during every firing cycle.

Why choose a high-quality airsoft trigger?

A good trigger does more than just fire a shot. It determines how immediately your replica responds to every pull of the trigger and contributes to comfortable, consistent and accurate handling.

Please note:
A Speed Triggerdoes not increase the rate of fire (ROF) of your replica. The benefit lies in a shorter trigger travel, allowing you to fire in rapid succession more quickly and with greater control.

What exactly does an airsoft trigger do?

In a traditional AEG, the trigger forms the mechanical link between the trigger and the electrical trigger contacts. As soon as you pull the trigger, the contacts close, activating the motor and causing the gearbox to perform a full firing cycle.

In modern replicas fitted with an Electronic Trigger Unit (ETU) or MOSFET, this works differently. In these models, a sensor detects the movement of the trigger, after which the electronics control the motor. As a result, the trigger response is often faster and many systems can offer additional functions, such as programmable firing modes or active recoil.

In both cases, the trigger determines how comfortably, accurately and immediately your replica responds to every movement of your finger.

What is a Speed Trigger?

A Speed Trigger has been developed for players who want a shorter and more direct trigger pull. Unlike a standard trigger, many Speed Triggers are fitted with an adjustment screw, which allows the trigger travel to be precisely adjusted.

In particular, the Maxx Model Adjustable Triggers make it possible to significantly reduce what is known as ‘pre-travel’ (the distance travelled before the trigger is activated). This means the trigger needs to be pulled back less far before the replica responds.

The result is a faster trigger response and a more comfortable shooting experience, particularly during rapid semi-automatic firing. This makes the Speed Trigger popular amongst speedsofters, competitive shooters and players who want to fine-tune their replica down to the last detail.

It is important to note that a Speed Trigger does not make the replica fire any faster. The motor, gears and electronics still determine the actual rate of fire. The benefit lies entirely in the shorter trigger travel, which allows you to fire the next shot more quickly.

Why choose an adjustable Speed Trigger?

The main advantage of an Adjustable Speed Trigger is that you can adjust the trigger to suit your personal preferences. Whilst a standard trigger has a fixed travel distance, with an adjustable trigger you can significantly reduce the distance the trigger travels.

A distinction is made here between two key institutions:

  • Pre-Travel – the distance the trigger travels before it is activated.
  • Over-Travel – the distance the trigger continues to travel after the shot has been fired.

Adjusting both results in a much more direct firing sensation. This is often described as a ‘hair trigger’: a trigger that responds to even the slightest movement.

This really comes into its own, particularly with replicas fitted with an ETU or MOSFET, as the electronics accurately detect the trigger movement and no longer need to operate any mechanical trigger contacts.

Mechanical Trigger or ETU Trigger?

Not every AEG uses the same trigger mechanism. In a traditional AEG, the trigger directly actuates the trigger contacts, thereby activating the motor. The length of the trigger travel is partly determined by the mechanical construction of the gearbox.

In replicas fitted with an Electronic Trigger Unit (ETU) or MOSFET, the movement of the trigger is detected by a sensor. This allows the trigger to be adjusted much more precisely, enabling adjustable Speed Triggers to make the most of their adjustment capabilities.

You should therefore always check whether the trigger you have chosen is suitable for your gearbox and any ETU or MOSFET.

Not every Trigger is universal

Although many airsoft triggers are compatible with standard Version 2 gearboxes, there are differences between manufacturers and electronic trigger systems.

Some adjustable triggers are specifically designed for systems such as the Gate TITAN, Gate ASTER, Perun Hybrid or similar ETUs. Furthermore, certain gearbox shells or replicas may have different tolerances.

You should therefore always check the product specifications before purchasing a new trigger, to ensure that it is fully compatible with your gearbox and electronics.

Top brands within Speed Triggers

In this category, you’ll find high-quality triggers from manufacturers renowned for their precision craftsmanship and excellent fit.

The Maxx Model is one of the very best when it comes to adjustable Speed Triggers. Thanks to the integrated adjustment screw, these triggers can be fine-tuned with extreme precision for optimum trigger response.

In addition, Guarder and Retro Arms offer high-quality triggers for both maintenance and performance-oriented gearbox builds.

Practical tip

Never set an adjustable Speed Trigger to the shortest possible setting straight away. If the trigger does not have sufficient free travel, the replica may continue to fire unintentionally, fail to reset correctly or cause malfunctions. Take your time to adjust the trigger step by step and check that the replica is working properly after each adjustment.

Professional use

In professional gearbox builds, a Speed Trigger is almost always combined with a high-quality ETU or MOSFET. Experienced airsoft technicians carefully tune the trigger travel to match the electronics used, ensuring that the replica responds quickly without compromising on reliability.

The aim here is not to make the replica fire more quickly, but to make the trigger response as immediate as possible. Players who frequently use the semi-automatic fire mode in particular benefit from a shorter trigger travel and a quicker reset point.

What should you look out for when buying an airsoft trigger?

Before you buy a new trigger, it’s a good idea to check which gearbox and electronics your replica uses.

In this regard, please bear in mind, amongst other things:

  • Compatibility with your gearbox.
  • Suitable for a standard AEG or an ETU/MOSFET.
  • Standaard Trigger of Adjustable Speed Trigger.
  • Adjustment options for pre-travel and over-travel.
  • The desired shape and ergonomics of the trigger.

By choosing a trigger that suits both your playing style and your gearbox configuration, you’ll get the most out of both the feel of firing and the handling of your replica.

Airsoft triggers & speed triggers inside the gearbox

The Airsoft Trigger acts as the link between the shooter and the AEG’s firing mechanism. In traditional gearboxes, the trigger activates the trigger contacts, whilst in modern replicas fitted with an ETU or MOSFET, the trigger movement is recorded electronically. In combination with components such as the Selector Plate, Cut-Off Lever and the electronics, the trigger determines how quickly and accurately your replica responds.

Are you carrying out a complete gearbox upgrade, or do you want to improve the trigger response of your replica? Then take a look at our AEG Gearbox Parts category, where you’ll find all the parts you need to fine-tune your gearbox to perfection.

Common mistakes

A Speed Trigger is a popular upgrade, but it is often fitted or adjusted incorrectly.

Common mistakes include:

  • Thinking that a Speed Trigger increases the rate of fire (ROF).
  • Adjust the trigger to such a short setting that it no longer resets correctly.
  • Failure to take into account the compatibility of the trigger with the existing ETU or MOSFET.
  • Fitting an adjustable trigger without testing its operation after each adjustment.
  • Assuming that only a new trigger will improve the trigger response, whilst the motor, battery, gears and electronics also play an important role in this.
  • Choosing a trigger that is not suitable for the gearbox or replica being used.

By viewing the trigger as part of the overall system, you can avoid common problems and get the most out of your replica.

Frequently Asked Questions about Airsoft Triggers & Speed Triggers

Will my replica fire faster with a Speed Trigger?
No. A Speed Trigger does not increase the replica’s rate of fire. However, it does shorten the trigger travel, allowing you to fire in rapid succession more quickly and comfortably.

What is a Hair Trigger?
A Hair Trigger is a trigger that has been adjusted so that only a minimal movement is required for the replica to respond. This is achieved by reducing the pre-travel and, in some cases, the over-travel.

Can I fit a Speed Trigger to any AEG?
Not always. Always check whether the trigger is compatible with your gearbox and any ETU or MOSFET. Some triggers are specifically designed for certain electronic trigger systems.

Should I set an adjustable trigger all the way to the end?
No. If the trigger is set too short, it may not reset properly or may continue to fire unintentionally. You should therefore always adjust the trigger gradually and check that the replica is working correctly after each adjustment.

How can I improve the trigger response of my AEG?
A Speed Trigger can help to create a more immediate firing sensation, but the overall trigger response is also determined by the motor, gear ratio, battery, ETU/MOSFET and the gearbox settings. The best results are achieved when all these components are properly matched.

Advice from Airsoft-Legends

A high-quality airsoft trigger is one of the most noticeable upgrades for the firing feel of your AEG. Particularly when combined with an ETU or MOSFET, an adjustable speed trigger can provide a much more direct and comfortable operation.

Our advice is to always adjust a Speed Trigger carefully and not to focus solely on achieving the shortest possible trigger travel. Optimal performance is achieved when the trigger, electronics, motor and gearbox are tuned as a single unit. This way, you not only benefit from a fast trigger response, but also from a reliable replica that continues to function without any issues.

With high-quality Airsoft Triggers & Speed Triggers from Guarder, Maxx Model and Retro Arms, you can improve the control, shooting feel and trigger response of your AEG. Whether you opt for a reliable standard trigger or a fully adjustable Speed Trigger, the right trigger makes every firing cycle more accurate and comfortable.
