The Arcturus EMM AK12 5-Pack Mid-Cap 130/30rds Black is a complete set of five adjustable mid-cap magazines for AK AEG airsoft replicas. Thanks to the EMM system, each magazine can be set to hold 130 BBs or a more realistic capacity of 30 BBs. This makes the same set suitable for both regular skirmishes and milsim, as well as other scenarios where a limited magazine capacity is desirable.

The magazines are made from reinforced polymer and feature a blackened steel magazine base. They also feature an extended feeder, which helps to reduce the number of BBs left in the feed path after a magazine change. The set weighs a total of approximately 1050 grams and contains five black AK12-style magazines.

EMM – Enhanced Modular Magazine

EMM stands for Enhanced Modular Magazine. The Arcturus’ modular design has been developed to offer greater flexibility than a traditional mid-cap magazine.

A key feature of this is the adjustable capacity. You can set each magazine individually to hold 130 or 30 BBs.

In addition, the magazines can be dismantled for cleaning and maintenance. This makes it easier to access the internal components when dirt or BB residue begins to build up following intensive use.

Five storage units in one set

This version is supplied as a 5-pack. You will therefore receive five individual Arcturus EMM AK12 mid-cap magazines.

When all five magazines are set to 130 BBs, the total capacity is:

5 × 130 BBs = 650 BBs

If you use the more realistic 30-BB setting, the total capacity is:

5 x 30 BB's = 150 BB's

This gives you enough pouches straight away to fill several pouches on a plate carrier, chest rig or battle belt.

Adjustable capacity of 130 or 30 BBs

Each warehouse has a variable capacity of 130/30 BBs.

The 130-BB setting is suitable for standard skirmishes where you want to carry a practical amount of ammunition without using high-capacity magazines.

The 30-BB setting is particularly interesting for milsim, training exercises and realistic scenarios. With just 30 BBs per magazine, magazine changes and ammunition management become a much more important part of the game.

As each magazine can be set up individually, the set also offers a great deal of flexibility. You can adapt the magazines to the event for which you intend to use them without having to purchase two different sets.

Mid-cap without a winding mechanism

All five magazines are mid-caps. The BBs are fed towards the replica by an internal spring.

A traditional high-cap magazine usually uses an internal reservoir and a winding mechanism. With these mid-caps, that is not necessary.

This makes them appealing to players who don’t want to use a winding mechanism and prefer to play with separately loaded magazines.

A speedloader is highly recommended for loading the magazines. It really does save a fair bit of time, especially if you want to load all five magazines in quick succession with 130 BBs.

Designed for AK AEG platforms

The Arcturus EMM AK12 magazines have been developed for AK AEG airsoft replicas.

Additional product information states that they are compatible with AKM, AK74 and AK12 platforms. This means that the magazines are not only suitable for an AK12 replica, but can also be used in other compatible electric AK replicas.

The AK12-style design gives the magazines a modern look that complements contemporary AK builds particularly well.

Compatibility remains model-dependent

Although these magazines are designed for various AK platforms, it is advisable never to regard AK magazines as being entirely universal.

Differences in the magwell, magazine catch and feed mechanism can affect the fit. A magazine may fit snugly and with virtually no play in one AK, whilst the same magazine may fit slightly more loosely in another model.

Reliable feeding of BBs is also important. Just because a magazine physically fits into a replica and clicks into place does not automatically mean that every combination will feed perfectly.

Therefore, when using it in a replica of another brand, always check both the fit and the feeding.

Reinforced polymer casing

The main housing of each magazine is made from reinforced polymer.

This is particularly useful when carrying a full set of five magazines. After all, when several magazines are carried at once on a plate carrier or chest rig, the weight of the full loadout can quickly add up.

The total stated weight of this 5-pack is 1050 grams, which works out at approximately 210 grams per magazine.

Warehouse floor made of blackened steel

The underside of each storage unit is fitted with a storage base made of blackened steel.

With this design, Arcturus combines a reinforced polymer magazine casing with steel in the lower section of the magazine.

The black finish also complements the all-black design of this set.

Extended feeder to minimise BB loss

An interesting technical detail is the extended feeder, also known as an extended follower.

With many AEGs, a few BBs remain in the feed path between the magazine and the hop-up unit during a magazine change. As soon as you remove the magazine, these BBs may fall out of the replica.

The extended feeder for the EMM magazines is designed to reduce the number of BBs left behind.

This is particularly worth noting with a 5-pack. If you regularly switch magazines during a day’s play, a few lost BBs per switch can really add up in the end.

Incidentally, the system does not guarantee that absolutely no BBs will be left behind with every combination of replica and hop-up unit.

Can be dismantled for maintenance

The EMM design makes it possible to dismantle the storage units for maintenance and cleaning.

This may be useful if a magazine has been used intensively or if dirt has got into the internal feed channel.

In the case of mid-cap magazines, it is also advisable not to store them fully loaded for long periods after a day’s play. Removing the BBs prevents the internal magazine spring from remaining under full tension for an unnecessarily long time.

With five warehouses, it might mean a bit more work at the end of the day, but looking after your equipment is still cheaper than replacing it.

Modern AK12 look

The AK12-style design sets these magazines apart visually from classic AK74 magazines.

This makes them an excellent fit for modern AK12 replicas and tactical AK builds. The all-black colour scheme also makes them easy to pair with black replicas and equipment.

This design may also be of interest for AK74 or AKM builds where functionality is more important than a historically accurate magazine style.

Practical insights

The Arcturus EMM AK12 5-Pack Mid-Cap 130/30rds Black is particularly appealing to players who wish to purchase a complete set of magazines straight away.

With all magazines set to 130 BBs, you have a total capacity of 650 BBs. For many skirmishes, that’s a practical amount, spread across five separate magazines.

If you switch them to 30 BBs, the same set becomes a more realistic configuration totalling 150 BBs. This can result in a significantly different playing experience, particularly for milsim: you’ll need to reload more often, keep a closer eye on how many you have left, and be a little less keen to hold the trigger down.

The extended feeder is also a useful addition that helps to minimise BB loss during magazine changes.

If you are using magazines in an AK manufactured by another company, compatibility remains the most important consideration. Not only should you check that the magazine clicks into place, but you should also test whether it feeds reliably at full capacity.

Who is the Arcturus EMM AK12 5-Pack Mid-Cap 130/30rds suitable for?

This Arcturus EMM AK12 5-Pack is ideal for players who need several mid-cap magazines for a compatible AK AEG and want to purchase a complete basic set-up for their loadout straight away.

For standard skirmishes, the 130-BB setting offers a practical balance between capacity and the use of individual mid-cap magazines.

For milsim and realistic scenarios, all magazines can be reset to 30 BBs.

The set is also of interest to players who value ease of maintenance, a modern AK12 design and an extended feeder that helps to minimise the number of BBs left behind.

Common mistakes

  • The designation 130/30 BBs means that each magazine can be set to hold either 130 or 30 BBs. The capacity is therefore not 160 BBs per magazine.
  • Please note that this is a 5-pack. With all magazines set to 130 BBs, the total capacity is 650 BBs.
  • Do not assume that every AK magazine will fit every AK AEG exactly the same way. Slight variations between manufacturers and models can affect the fit.
  • Don’t just check whether a magazine clicks into place in the replica; also test whether it feeds reliably.
  • It is best to use a speedloader for loading. These magazines are mid-capacity and do not have a high-capacity winding mechanism.
  • Do not force a magazine into the replica if it is exceptionally tight. First check that it is compatible and correctly positioned.
  • Do not expect the extended feeder to guarantee that no BBs are left behind in every replica. The system is designed to reduce BB loss.
  • Ideally, do not leave the magazines fully loaded for long periods after a day’s play. Remove the BBs so that the internal springs do not remain under full tension unnecessarily.
  • When dismantling, take care with the internal spring and components. Always reassemble the magazine correctly after maintenance before reloading it.
