Are you looking for a versatile riflescope for an airsoft rifle or DMR that allows you to switch quickly between short and longer ranges? The Specna Arms CORE™ 1-6X24IR SFP Spotting Scope Black combines a variable 1-6x magnification with a Second Focal Plane (SFP) reticle, red illumination with 11 brightness settings and a sturdy 30 mm tube. This makes this optic particularly appealing to outdoor enthusiasts who want more options than a red dot sight but do not need a large, high-magnification sniper scope.

In addition to variable magnification, the scope features an FMC lens coating, focus adjustment, IPX7 water resistance and anti-fogging protection. Specna Arms also specifies a shock resistance rating of 1000G. Weighing approximately 525 grams and supplied with a Weaver/Picatinny/RIS mount, this makes for a thoroughly well-equipped 1–6x optic.

Why choose the Specna Arms CORE™ 1-6X24IR SFP?

The key feature of this scope is the combination of 1x to 6x magnification in a single optic. At the lower magnification settings, you retain a good overview and can react quickly, whilst you can increase the magnification when you want to get a better look at a player, position or barricade further away.

This makes this scope ideal for airsoft fields where engagement distances change regularly. Instead of a single fixed magnification, you can adjust the scope to suit the situation you find yourself in at any given moment.

From 1x to 6x magnification

The magnification is adjustable from 1x to 6x. A low magnification is particularly useful when opponents are closing in and you want to maintain as wide a field of view as possible. At longer ranges, you can increase the magnification to 6x to see more detail.

The zoom ring has a textured surface, giving you a better grip when adjusting it. This is a practical feature, particularly when you’re wearing gloves or need to change the magnification quickly during a skirmish.

Please bear in mind, however, that magnification does not increase the effective range of your replica. The main advantage is that it allows you to observe targets and their surroundings more clearly.

Second Focal Plane richtkruis

The abbreviation SFP stands for Second Focal Plane. With an SFP scope, the reticle remains optically the same size when you change the magnification. The image of the target therefore becomes larger or smaller, whilst the reticle appears roughly the same size to the eye.

This can be useful for airsoft because, regardless of the magnification you choose, you maintain a recognisable and stable sight picture. If you use the markings on the reticle for specific range corrections, it is important to bear in mind that the relationship between those markings and the target changes when you adjust the magnification.

For most airsoft players, who mainly use the central sight for quick aiming, the SFP is, above all, a simple and practical solution.

Red light with 11 brightness settings

The centre of the reticle can be illuminated in red. There are 11 brightness settings available, allowing you to adjust the intensity to suit the conditions in which you are playing.

In a dark area of a woodland field, a lower setting may be sufficient, whilst in bright ambient light you can use a higher brightness setting. It is best to choose the lowest setting at which the illuminated target is still clearly visible. A setting that is too bright can actually make the reticle appear more distracting.

The light is powered by a CR2032 battery.

30 mm tube and 24 mm objective lens

The scope has a 30 mm tube and, as the 1-6x24 designation indicates, a 24 mm objective lens. The 30 mm tube diameter is particularly important if you wish to use a different mount at a later date.

This version comes with a mount included. If you wish to change the mounting height at a later date, please check that the new mounting rings or mount are suitable for a 30 mm tube.

The total length is approximately 26 cm and the stated weight is approximately 525 grams. This means the scope remains relatively compact for a variable-magnification riflescope.

Horizontal and vertical adjustment

The turrets are designed to adjust the scope horizontally and vertically. According to the manufacturer, each click represents 1/2 MOA and the specified total adjustment range is 45 MOA.

For airsoft, it is advisable not to zero in the scope until your replica has been correctly adjusted. First, choose the BB weight you will actually be using, and then adjust the hop-up until the replica fires a consistent trajectory. You can then align the scope’s point of aim with that trajectory.

Eye relief van 108 tot 98 mm

Depending on the magnification setting, an eye relief of 108 to 98 mm is specified. This is the distance between your eye and the rear of the optic at which you get a clear field of view.

The mounting position of a riflescope is therefore more important than that of a simple red dot sight. Mount the scope whilst holding the replica in your normal shooting position and check that you can comfortably see the entire field of view at different magnification settings.

Field of view for short and longer distances

The specified field of view at 100 yards ranges from 116.2 to 19.2 feet, depending on the magnification setting. As with virtually any variable-magnification scope, the visible area decreases as you zoom in further.

During dynamic airsoft play, it is therefore often advisable not to stay on 6x magnification all the time. A lower magnification gives you a better overview and makes it easier to spot movement around your target. Switch to a higher magnification when you actually need extra detail.

FMC lens coating and focus adjustment

According to Specna Arms, the optical surfaces are fitted with a FMC (Fully Multi-Coated) coating. This coating is designed to enhance light transmission and reduce unwanted reflections.

The scope also features a focus adjustment. When using it for the first time, take the time to adjust it correctly to suit your eyes. A properly adjusted focus ensures that you can see the reticle clearly and comfortably.

IPX7 water resistance and anti-fog

An interesting difference compared with many simpler airsoft optics is the stated IPX7 rating. IPX7 means that the product has been tested for temporary immersion in water under the conditions specified by this rating. This offers a significantly higher level of water resistance than, for example, IPX4, which indicates protection against splashing water.

Specna Arms also states that the optic is resistant to fogging of the lens. This can be a useful feature, particularly during outdoor skirmishes where temperature and humidity fluctuate.

Although this means the scope is well prepared for wet conditions, it is still advisable to dry the optics thoroughly after a rainy skirmish before storing them for a long period in a closed bag or case.

Shock resistance of 1000G

Specna Arms states a shock resistance of 1000G. According to the manufacturer, this means the scope can be used not only for airsoft but also in combination with, amongst others, .22LR and .223 Rem.

For airsoft, it is particularly important that the scope is designed to withstand high mechanical stress. This indicates that, in terms of its construction, this scope is clearly intended for more than just use on a virtually vibration-free replica.

Protective covers for transport

Polymer lens caps are supplied for transport. These help to protect the glass surfaces when the replica is carried in, for example, a rifle bag or hard case.

The manufacturer does not specify a BB impact rating for these visors. You should therefore not use them as a substitute for a suitable airsoft lens protector during a skirmish. For direct protection against BB impact, we recommend a protector that is specifically designed for that purpose.

Inclusief Weaver/Picatinny/RIS mount

A mount is included as standard, and the specified rail compatibility includes Weaver, Picatinny and RIS. This means you don’t need to buy a separate scope mount straight away for a compatible airsoft replica.

The scope comes with an Allen key, a user manual and cleaning wipes for the optics. This means you’ll have the most important items for assembly and routine maintenance straight to hand.

Practical tip

During a skirmish, don’t automatically set a 1–6x scope to the maximum 6x magnification. Start at a low magnification setting for a wide field of view, and only increase the magnification when you want to get a better look at a target further away. Also, make sure you adjust your BB weight and hop-up correctly before zeroing the optic; otherwise, you’ll be adjusting the scope for a BB trajectory that will change later on.

Frequently Asked Questions

When should I choose this 1-6x scope instead of a red dot?
If you mainly play fast-paced CQB games at close range, a compact red dot offers advantages due to its lighter weight and ease of use. If you play a lot outdoors and encounter both short and longer engagement distances, this 1-6x scope is more versatile. You can use it at low magnification for a general overview and zoom in when you want to get a better look at a player or position further away.

What is the advantage of an SFP scope for airsoft?
With a Second Focal Plane scope, the reticle appears roughly the same size to your eye when you change the magnification. This means the reticle remains recognisable at both low and high magnifications. If you mainly use the central aiming point for airsoft, this is simple and practical. If you want to use the reticle markings very precisely for range corrections, bear in mind that their position relative to the target changes when you adjust the magnification.

Isn’t 6x magnification too much for airsoft?
You don’t need 6x magnification for most shots. The main benefit lies in observation and target identification: you can see more clearly whether a movement in the distance is actually an opponent, exactly where someone is taking cover, or where your BBs are landing. In practice, you’ll probably use a lower magnification setting most of the time and only switch to 6x when it gives you an advantage.

Is this scope a good choice for a DMR?
Yes, a DMR is actually a logical application for a 1–6x scope. At low magnification, you retain a good overview as a situation draws nearer, but you can use the extra magnification when operating at greater ranges. The weight of approximately 525 grams is something to bear in mind when considering the overall balance of your replica.

Can I use this scope comfortably with a mesh mask?
That depends mainly on the combination of your stock, the height of the supplied mount and your face protection. A large mesh mask may prevent you from getting your cheek close enough to the stock to sit comfortably behind a low-mounted scope. You should therefore check, from your normal shooting position, whether you can see the full field of view within the 108–98 mm eye relief. If this isn’t possible, a higher mount may be a better solution.

Do I still need a lens protector despite the lens caps supplied?
For airsoft, we do recommend one. The polymer covers are primarily intended to protect the lenses during storage and transport. No BB impact rating is specified. A direct hit on an unprotected scope can prove costly, so a suitable airsoft lens protector remains a sensible addition.

Advice from Airsoft-Legends

The Specna Arms CORE™ 1-6X24IR SFP Spotting Scope Black is particularly appealing to players who want a single optic capable of covering a range of distances. For pure CQB, we’d tend to opt for a lightweight red dot sight, but for an outdoor assault rifle or DMR, the 1-6x magnification range really comes into its own.

The combination of an SFP reticle, 11 brightness settings, a 30 mm tube and 1–6x magnification offers you plenty of flexibility without having to switch straight to a large sniper scope. The relatively wide field of view at low magnification is also well suited to more dynamic airsoft use.

What makes this model particularly interesting are its IPX7 rating and anti-fog properties. These are particularly relevant features for players who play outdoors all year round and don’t head home at the first sign of rain. The stated 1000G shock resistance also highlights its robust construction.

Weighing in at approximately 525 grams, it is, of course, considerably heavier than a compact red dot sight, but for a variable riflescope, the weight is perfectly manageable on a rifle or DMR. The included mount also makes the package a lot more complete straight away.

So, if you’re mainly looking for a scope for an outdoor rifle or DMR where you want to be able to switch quickly between a wide field of view and a maximum magnification of 6x, then this Specna Arms CORE™ 1-6X24IR SFP is a versatile choice.
