The Crossfire is classified as parallax-free. As with virtually any red dot sight, there may technically be a minimal parallax deviation, but within normal airsoft and training ranges, this is generally negligible. The practical advantage is that the dot remains usable even when your eye is not positioned exactly behind the centre of the sight whilst moving.

Aluminium housing for heavy-duty use

The single-piece aluminium housing protects the internal electronics and adjustment mechanisms from impact, vibration and recoil. Weighing approximately 150 grams, the optic remains compact enough not to shift the balance of a carbine or airsoft replica unnecessarily towards the front.

O-ring seals and nitrogen purging keep moisture, dust and dirt out and reduce the risk of internal condensation. The matt black anodised finish minimises reflections and protects the surface against normal wear and tear caused by slings, transport cases and other gear.

Shock-resistant does not mean that the front lens is immune to a direct BB impact. When playing airsoft, you should therefore fit a transparent lens protector in front of the optic. Particularly during CQB, the distance is often too short to rely on the lens coating alone providing sufficient protection.

Included mounting heights

The CF-GD2 comes with a low-profile mount and a lower 1/3 co-witness mount. Both are designed for Picatinny rails and compatible Weaver rails.

The low mount is well suited to platforms where the rail is positioned relatively high in relation to the cheek rest. On an M4 or AR platform, the lower 1/3 mount is usually the more logical choice. This position keeps the head slightly more upright and makes it easier to find the dot when wearing a mesh mask, helmet or active hearing protection.

A higher mount is not necessarily better. If the scope is positioned too high above the barrel, it becomes more difficult to maintain a consistent cheek position, and the difference in height between the barrel and the line of sight increases. At very short ranges, you therefore need to take greater account of the fact that the centre of the bullet or the bullet itself will strike the target lower than where the dot is positioned.

Adjusting for a consistent point of impact

First, set the hop-up, the BB weight and the desired firing range before zeroing the Crossfire. Otherwise, if the BB’s trajectory is still changing, you’ll end up adjusting the sight for an inconsistent replica rather than the actual point of impact.

Zero the sight from a supported position and use the same BBs you normally shoot with. Then, from your usual shooting stance, check whether the chosen mounting height still feels natural. A technically correct zero is of little use if you have to keep moving your head to find the dot whilst on the move.

Fit push-button switches and cables in such a way that they do not unnecessarily obstruct the field of view around the optic.

For woodland and milsim, a flip-to-side magnifier can be added. This aids observation and allows for more accurate aiming at longer ranges, but adds extra weight and requires a more precise eye position. Those who mainly play within 50 metres will usually find it quicker and easier to keep the replica balanced with just the Crossfire.

Also pay attention to the positioning of the sling. A buckle that constantly strikes the optic or mount whilst in motion will damage the finish and may place unnecessary strain on the mounting. You should therefore position the sling hardware outside the field of movement of the sight.

The two lowest brightness settings are suitable for use with night-vision equipment. However, passive aiming with a head-mounted monocular may require a higher, specialised riser. This is because the LED’s night-vision compatibility says nothing about the ergonomics of the mounting height.
