Specna Arms Aluminium Type 0 Cylinder Blue is a CNC-machined aluminium Type 0 cylinder that delivers the maximum air volume for AEGs with a long inner barrel. Its sealed, portless design ensures efficient air compression, resulting in more consistent energy transfer and minimising FPS fluctuations when the compression components are properly adjusted.

When upgrading a gearbox, attention often focuses on a new spring or precision barrel, whilst the cylinder is at least as crucial to the final performance. An incorrect cylinder capacity can lead to under- or over-volumising, preventing a precision barrel from reaching its full potential. This Type 0 version has been developed for replicas with an inner barrel of approximately 450 mm or longer, such as many G3, M16A1, AK47 and AUG platforms, as well as various DMR configurations.

Why a Type 0 cylinder makes all the difference

A Type 0 cylinder has the largest internal air volume of all standard AEG cylinders. As the cylinder is completely sealed, the maximum amount of air remains available during the compression stroke to accelerate the BB through a long barrel. This results in a more stable energy delivery when the rest of the compression set is correctly matched.

During technical upgrades, experienced tuners notice a particular difference when a long precision barrel is combined with a cylinder that has sufficient air reserve. A corrected volume ratio often results in a more consistent shot pattern and smaller FPS variations between consecutive shots.

CNC-machined aluminium for reliability under load

The cylinder is made of aluminium, which keeps the weight down without compromising the wear resistance of the compression surface. A smooth internal finish reduces friction between the piston head and the cylinder wall, ensuring that the O-ring seals more evenly and that compression remains consistent throughout thousands of gearbox cycles.

Furthermore, during frequent servicing, it is noticeable that aluminium is less prone to surface corrosion than many simple steel cylinders, meaning that the inner wall remains smooth for longer and the air seal is better maintained.

Coordination within a complete compression set

A cylinder’s performance is never determined solely by the cylinder itself. The greatest gains are achieved when it is combined with a high-quality cylinder head, a well-fitting nozzle, a double-sealed piston head and a correctly shimmed gearbox.

A common mistake is fitting a Type 0 cylinder into a replica with a short inner barrel. Due to the excessive air volume, efficiency may actually decrease, meaning the upgrade delivers fewer benefits than expected. Conversely, a ported cylinder in a long barrel configuration often results in unnecessary FPS loss and less consistent performance.

Practical insights that are often underestimated

When carrying out overhauls, we often see players immediately fitting a stiffer spring whilst the existing compression set is leaking air. In such cases, a better air seal often yields greater benefits than extra spring force.

The impact of choosing the right cylinder on BB flight is also regularly underestimated. Less variation in air pressure generally means a more consistent hop-up effect, making shots feel more predictable.

It is also advisable to check all compression components at the same time during a gearbox overhaul. A new cylinder cannot compensate for a worn nozzle or a damaged piston head.

Suitable for a serious outdoor or DMR build

This cylinder is at its best in AEG builds with longer barrels, where consistent energy transfer is more important than an extremely high rate of fire. Outdoor replicas and DMR set-ups benefit most from the combination of sufficient air volume and a well-tuned compression set.

For best results, combine this upgrade with a CNC cylinder head, a suitable airseal nozzle, a high-quality piston head, new O-rings and a precision inner barrel to get the most out of the gearbox.

Who is this cylinder suitable for?

This cylinder is a logical choice for players who wish to optimise their gearbox technically and who use a replica with an inner barrel longer than approximately 450 mm. It also provides a reliable basis for maintenance, overhauls and complete rebuilds.

If you’re using a compact CQB replica or a short-barrelled configuration, a Type 1, Type 2 or Type 3 cylinder is usually a more efficient choice as it is better suited to the required air volume.

Key features

  • Type 0 design without a port delivers maximum air volume for AEGs with long inner barrels from approximately 450 mm.
  • CNC-machined aluminium construction combines low weight with a wear-resistant inner wall to ensure consistent compression over the long term.
  • More consistent air compression helps to minimise FPS variations between shots when the compression set is correctly assembled.
  • Suitable for Version 2 and Version 3 gearboxes and ideal for maintenance, overhauls and high-performance gearbox upgrades.

Is a Type 0 cylinder suitable for every AEG?
No. A Type 0 cylinder is designed for replicas with a long inner barrel. For short barrels, a ported cylinder is generally more efficient because the air volume is better matched to the barrel.

Why does the cylinder affect FPS consistency?
The cylinder determines how much air is available during each firing cycle. When the air volume is well-matched to the barrel and the air seal is optimal, the FPS values remain more stable.

Can I just replace the cylinder?
Yes, you can, but the greatest improvement in performance is achieved when the cylinder head, nozzle, piston head and O-rings are also in good condition or are replaced at the same time.

Does this cylinder fit Version 2 and Version 3 gearboxes?
Yes. This Specna Arms Type 0 cylinder is suitable for most standard Version 2 and Version 3 platforms, provided the other parts are compatible.

When is it better to choose a different cylinder?
If you’re using a replica with a short or medium-length inner barrel, a Type 1, Type 2 or Type 3 cylinder will generally provide a better volume ratio and more efficient performance.

Would you like to optimise your compression set for a long precision barrel? If so, the Specna Arms Aluminium Type 0 Cylinder Blue is an excellent basis for a reliable and consistent gearbox upgrade.
